So these ‘actors’ are not like Al. So that must mean they are uneducated bible thumping morons who have a talent for not being funny. Ratzenberger went to Sacred Heart University(big Catholic skew there). Besides being a nutjob with an annoying voice Victoria Jackson is also a “born again” Christian. Stephen Baldwin; also a born again Christian. Robert Davi, who you may remember as one of the Fratelli brothers, also heavily supported Bush and his “faith in God”. Did I mention he associates the War in Iraq as a direct correllation with the War on terror?  And Pat Boone ? My mom told me to stay away from the naked man in the swimming pool with a fishing rod… who wears a winter cap.  Boone is also one of those monkeys who thinks evolution is “absurd”.

Am I the only person who reads this video as antisemitic?

south park indy2 510x398 Did Southpark go too far?

If you did not see the season premiere of Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s South Park, you just might have missed out on a life altering major event. Of course I am exaggerating but this is how out of proportion news sources have made this latest episode entitled “The China Problem”. One of the two story arcs is Cartman and Butters taking a Chinese restaurant hostage in hopes of stopping the Chinese invasion, the b-plot is the traumatic story of Stan and Kyle being unable to move on after seeing Indiana Jones be raped by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.

This episode is ironic for me as I have actually said more than once in a drunken conversation that George Lucas has “raped my childhood”. I have also referred to him as “my Judas”. People may think I may go a bit too far, but I tend to find these so called “people” usually were deprived of these films as a child and therefore don’t feel as betrayed when these figures figuratively urinate on stories you hold more dear than any religion.

As for what Lucas’s and Speilberg’s reactions were?

To quote the LA times:

Show Tracker put a call in to Lucasfilm to try to get their thoughts (ha!), but in the meantime, do you side with “South Park,” or those behind the “Crystal Skull” on this one? Coming a few days after The Times’ Hero Complex wrote that “Indy 5″ is still a possibility, it might be time to make your voice known.

Now the LA times as far as I can tell have not followed up on this, however Nikki Finki has posted this update on her blog:

I understand that no Hollywood bigwig will bother to lodge a protest with Viacom over the South Park episode. “We don’t want to engage. We just want it to go away,” an insider just told me. The Wednesday night episode, which was the show’s fall season premiere, was seen by an average of 3.7 million viewers, up 21% from last fall’s debut and topping all of cable during its time period. It stands as the show’s most-watched fall premiere since 1999.

Frankly if you think that Stone and Parker crossed the line, then you didn’t see Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

And it appears I am not alone. Looking at the LA Times poll once more shows a genuine disappointment with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:

My thoughts on the so called un-PC social meme “so gay”? This is another case of being ridiculously politically correct. I live right next to Church street in Toronto which apparently is the gayest neighborhood in Canada… and I don’t go around pointing at guys saying “That’s so gay.” . That would be stating the obvious. Any idiot can figure out that the context of the term gay when talking about garments or anything in a really negative sense is not to hurt the homosexual community. If the derogatory version starting with the letter F was being used that would be another story.

I have no issue with someone coming up with “that is so straight” when it means you look overly dickish and PC. Hilary Duff is making herself look even more stupid. Now she’s condescending girl at the mall. We all love those people.

If this video does not make you want to go punch a shrubbery, I don’t know what will. I’d like to say I am safe here up in the Great White North, but I get the feeling Harper’s approach has been even more Orwellian.

Also if you are going to compare Keith Olbermann of MSNBC to Fox’s Bill O’Reilly could you provide at least a shred of evidence? I haven’t seen Olbermann ever cut someone’s microphone in the middle of an interview or for that matter attack someone’s character. Nor have I seen Olbermann making appearances in crass political comedies like he is some form of icon of stupidity. In terms of political punditry it is like comparing Shakespeare to a feces slinging monkey.

Deep Thoughts: Who thought insulting the audience would get them out to vote? Chances are if your lazy ass isn’t going to register your ass was probably to lazy to watch all four minutes and forty-five seconds of this. Can we vote not to have Halle Berry or Ellen Degeneres tell us what to do? The fact that this video is necessary though is more embarassing than anything else.

My opinion? You have no right to complain if you don’t vote. Heck even if you vote for the wrong guy and s/he makes a mess out of it, then at least you can complain that s/he betrayed your vote.

So send this to five people who can vote. If you’re a Canadian like me then you’re lucky and can register on the day of voting (I’m already registered of course). This October 4th deadline to register is a bunch of BS.

jokerforoscar thumb Soapbox: Does Ledgers Joker Deserve an Oscar?

This Post is an elaboration on a comment I made AT Justin’s Blog.

Just about everyone’s grandma has seen this movie by this point, but if I recall correctly people were clamoring for Heath Ledger to have a posthumous Oscar nomination well before the The Dark Knight was even released with a great number of fanboys exalting it as the best film ever without even seeing it. So who has won a posthumous Oscar?

There was Peter Finch who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar with Network. However that was a ’serious’ film with Sidney Lumet at the helm, who already had two Oscar nominations for best director prior to it. It was a prestige film and damn it there isn’t a doubt in my mind that Finch would have won that Oscar dead or alive.

I may have said even in my own review that Ledger deserved an Oscar for the Joker, and I won’t admit to being caught up in hype (my review score still stands mind you) but upon retrospection his character doesn’t exactly have an arc. He’s powerfully written as a tour de force and Ledger does the job. But he does not have an arc. He’s like Emperor Palpatine. Just flat out bad. Aaron Eckhart’s Dent is more likely or at least deserving of an Oscar  nomination(by comparison) since his performance actually went places, going from Gotham’s White Knight to Two Face during the film’s running time.

Also most people who have been part of these discussions forget we haven’t even gotten to the Oscar movie season yet. If anyone remembers Road to Perdition it got screwed out of many awards because A. It was based on a graphic novel and B. It was released in the Summer. Most Oscar voters suffer from severe Alzheimer, so forgive them if they forget every movie released prior to September.

I don’t think it’s impossible for genre movies to win Oscars. Just look at Titanic(disaster movie with a poorly written love story) and Return of the King. Mind you Return of the King did not get a single nomination for acting. They tried to get Gollum a nomination… and he had a personal arc.

If only they had said that the Joker was retarded( a noble one) then he’d be a shoo-in.

videoda261b39d035 POP: Pot Dealers Tragic Choice Ended in Death

It’s not really funny, but it is ironic to know that marijuana has not ever killed a person… except when police are involved. This story is tragic and likely to make you angry. And an FYI: The baggy she was busted on weighed a quarter-pound which amounts to about 4 ounces. Rachel Hoffman was killed as an informant and her murderers were not apprehended until later. Anyone else think the police should be held on murder charges?

This is a classic example of corporations doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. Or maybe it’s the fault of the consumer here.

I wholeheartedly agree that the drop in honey bee population should be considered a very grave situation. In fact I think it is more alarming than global warming, if it is not a symptom of it, and if not addressed we can expect some world class starvation.

It does bother me though that Haagen-Dazs tries to convince you of its importance by saying ‘No bees = no ice cream with almonds’ .

Update: The jerks( I kidd) at Sci-Fi didn’t have a very stable video so here’s the youtube version.

Oh how I want to enjoy this spinoff but it just looks flat, and reminds me of the potential to ruin an already great series with stupid prequels. Seriously? Hasn’t anyone figured out why prequels suck? It’s not rocket science. Here’s an example. Joseph Adams as a character is completely invincible up until he impregnates Commander Adama’s mother. Did I mention this looks boring? Also another bit of info if you’re wondering why this feels so off as a show. A sci-fi robot based show with family drama was pitched to NBC/Sci-Fi and was picked up to be developed by grafting Battlestar Galactica onto it. It might look like BSG but it certainly does not have the same soul.

video745e52828f59 TOT: Terminator Salvation Teaser

This teaser for Terminator Salvation is doing nothing short of riding on the coat-tails of Christian Bale’s success. The Terminator franchise has been driven so deep into the ground that they think slapping Christian Bale’s name on there will give it added credibility.

So far it just looks like Se7en meets Transformers. I also don’t understand how time travel is going to come into this. Personally I think time-travel is equally important to the actual terminators. The first two films expertly wove a tale about the battle for free-will against fate, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines ruined it by simply making it fatalism, and frankly fatalism makes for a boring movie.

Also I had the impression that Christian Bale is only a supporting character in this film. Such a pain in the ass with all of these script rumors. If only I get my hands on the script I might shut up… but then McG is still directing.
