Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2008)
So I had the fortune last week to check out the ‘premiere’ of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer(a Canadian horror production) at my favorite cinema (Bloor Street) as a part of Rue Morgue’s Cinemacabre screenings. Not only was the movie itself a pleasant surprise, but I had the pleasure of seeing Robert Englund (Willy!!!) in the flesh.
Funny enough passersby of the lineup to get into this movie were under the impression it was for the Dark Knight.

It might just be me but this looks like a fun nostalgic gorefest. I usually shy away from most of the fare that Rue Morgue touts as good horror, when my usual reaction is that it’s amateur torture-porn (just wait for this site’s hits to sky rocket with those wonderful key words). So fingers are crossed that this Canadian based horror film does not suck. I’d love to see a Canadian film that I could recommend outside of Egoyan and Cronenberg.
Lucky for me Rue Morgue is holding a screening of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer tonight at my favorite (still standing) movie theatre; Bloor Cinema.
